After almost a year without blogging, I decided to shake the community a bit, while we try to find the time to finish the next release. For ages, we've been trying to find a new icon for the application. Very recently, two of our users sent their proposals, so I though why not just announce a sort of contest (with no prize for the winner besides getting all the fame and honor of being the SpeedCrunch's icon author :)
That said, all icons will be considered if they're available in SVG format, and come with a license that allows us to use it freely (including modifying it).
Sending us your icon is very simple, you just need to upload it here. You're free to upload as many as you want.
The deadline is October 15. The winner will be announced shortly after that. The decision will be taken by the core developers, and we can of course consider the users' opinions, expressed on the mailing list or here.

UPDATE: due to no time at all to dedicate to the project ATM, the icon contest deadline will be prolonged for undetermined time. The idea is still to have a new icon for the new release though.

On a side note:
The icon under Windows is not in 32 bit and thus looks very ugly - also it's not in all possible sizes so under Vista/7 it may look even uglier.
Would be a nice opportunity to fix this too.
Other than that - I use SpeedCrunch nearly every day ;-).

I just came back from the topic. What the fuck?! All icons sugested are bad. Majority are horrible! No wonder you had to postpone the deadline.
The math class should ask for help of the art class on this one.
I suggest you to search for professional help. I've put some suggestions there (if it wasn't deleted for any reason).
Please, your incredible app needs an incredible icon.
Thank you for the calculator. Haven't installed yet on Windows, but in case the problem still, I would just choose another icon, it's easy to change icons, and I have downloaded plenty of free calculator icons for Windows because I use RocketDock (for RocketDock icons must be multi-sized). Anyway, in Ubuntu I choosed it because it is usefull to see what you type. Hope it'll work in Windows because it is better than gift MsCalc :D francoise_peace V
Helder. O speed crunch da geito no kubuntu, mas se o ponto do keypad nao funciona como virgula , isto signica um apt-get remove speedcrunch... e' so' uma critica construtiva ;)
If the keypad dot doesn't work like decimal point this means apt-get remove speedcrunch, I'm tired of mistaking the dot , because we must use the comma. That is boring!!!

@Ladeira: I don't understand exactly what you're saying, but it sounds like an issue already solved in 0.11-alpha, where both comma and dot are accepted.
I think you may already know the colour problem with the icon when pinned to task bar in windows 7: when the program is open all seems ok, but when closed the icon stays in 16 colors (really ugly). This is the only think I would repair (pleaseeee), the current icon is not the best but looks ok when full-color.
From the proposed icons I don't like any, I rather would take a free one from one of the multiple pages, for example:
